Hello and welcome to Indie Palette!
My name is Tanya and I have been creating art all of my life.
My childhood was before the computer era — when kids spent most of their time playing outdoors and staying at home was the worst punishment. But, when I had to be indoors, I would read wonderful books full of amazing illustrations and pictures. The images I saw inspired me to create. I used pencil, crayon, ink pen, gouache, watercolour — any medium on anything resembling a blank canvas.
Today I love painting nature — be it its smallest subjects like flowers and leaves or its broad landscapes of sea, forests, and mountains. During my travels, I am drawn to old houses and gardens. I enjoy doing detailed and realistic portrayals of my subjects, although sometimes I use loose watercolour and splatter technique. I paint mostly in watercolour and use ink drawing. I also enjoy working in acrylic.
To take a break from larger painting projects and as a way to get inspired, I make hand-painted cards and bookmarks. These small forms allow me to experiment with different subjects and techniques and I return to my larger projects rejuvenated and energized.
I spend my free time reading, going to the theatre and ballet, and traveling. I love photography and often use my camera to capture the light, movement of clouds, fog, ocean waves, and leaves.
I often bring my sketchbook and a small set of watercolours on my travels to capture what I see as a quick illustration with ink drawing and a light wash of watercolour.
Indie Palette started as an Etsy shop in 2017, but I thought it was time to create my own space online and so this website was born.
